The Heimbecker Cup. This annual charity hockey game between undergraduates and graduate students/faculty raises funds in memory of Joan Heimbecker (1968-1994). Joan was a graduate student in the Department of Kinesiology who was killed on campus in an act of domestic violence. To mark her memory, a scholarship and bursary was established in her name and is awarded annually to a Kinesiology graduate student who most embodies Joan’s zest for life and commitment to community service. In addition, a donation is made to a charitable organization that helps support victims of domestic violence.
Each year the interest and attendance at the game continues to grow and has become a source of pride and enjoyment for the McMaster Kinesiology community. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Fun Fact: Did you know that the undergrads have DOMINATED The Heimbecker Cup for the last 3 years? Word has it that the profs have been recruiting since their last victory back in 2013!
